Abstract

This paper describes the use of two Purepecha verbs, namely uni ‘to make’ and jatsini ‘to have’, as modal expressions of possibility and necessity, respectively. Uni covers the whole spectrum of modal categories: deontic, epistemic and dynamic, while jatsini triggers mostly a deontic interpretation.
